An American Steakhouse Tavern in the Heart of the Black Hills

From Legends, To Legacies

In 1924, Custer State Park brought six Rocky Mountain goats from Alberta, Canada to live in a small enclosure. On their very first night, two slipped away, and by 1929 the rest had followed. Vanishing into the granite heights of the Black Elk Peak range, about 10 miles northwest, where steep rock and bold weather complimented their unique skills and native environments.

They climbed like little white daredevils, gathered close when storms came, and spread out when the hills offered new places to forage. Over the decades, their descendants multiplied and their territory expanded, and the legend lived on.

And that is why, when the day’s adventures are done, Six Goats Tavern welcomes the herd. A gathering point for the local goats. A cozy resting place for hungry wanderers. A shelter from the stalking of winters bone chilling breath. A sanctuary of warmth and amber light like a golden summer sunset. The food is hearty, the people are welcoming, the herds are gathering, and the best stories always find a seat at the table.

SIX legendary GOATS, one legacy of a TAVERN.

Six Goats Tavern introduces a warm, story-driven dining steak tavern that celebrates the independent spirit of the Black Hills.

Our culinary team brings decades of culinary experience to your table, blending classic techniques with modern creativity. From sourcing prime ranch-raised meats and farm-fresh produce, to perfecting slow-simmered sauces, we obsess over each detail so you can simply savor.

  • Six goats once broke free into the Black Hills.
We built a tavern in their honor.

Six Goats Tavern exists to gather people around fire, craft, and conversation through exceptional food, warm hospitality, and a room that feels timeless.

We are not here to be trendy.
We are here to be returned to.

  • Great meals aren’t rushed.
    Great rooms aren’t bright.
    Great taverns aren’t loud.

    They are warm.
    They are patient.
    They are built to last.

  • Our Values:

Craft Over Convenience. We do things the right way, not the easy way. Sourcing quality meats. Using family recipes handed down over generations. Real ingredients, real quality, real experiences.

Warmth Over Trend. Ambient light, wood, iron, steel, and comfort over anything flashy.

Hospitality as Heritage. Every guest is treated like they’ve been coming here for years — even on their first visit.

Authentic Materials, Honest Food. Nothing fake. Nothing forced. Wood, fire, iron, salt, and time.

The Table is Sacred. This place exists to bring people together. Long dinners. Stories. Celebrations.
