An American Steakhouse Tavern in the Heart of the Black Hills

From Legends, To Legacies

In 1924, Custer State Park brought six Rocky Mountain goats from Alberta, Canada to live in a small enclosure. On their very first night, two slipped away, and by 1929 the rest had followed. Vanishing into the granite heights of the Black Elk Peak range, about 10 miles northwest, where steep rock and bold weather complimented their unique skills and native environments.

They climbed like little white daredevils, gathered close when storms came, and spread out when the hills offered new places to forage. Over the decades, their descendants multiplied and their territory expanded, and the legend lived on.

And that is why, when the day’s adventures are done, Six Goats Tavern welcomes the herd. A gathering point for the local goats. A cozy resting place for hungry wanderers. A shelter from the stalking of winters bone chilling breath. A sanctuary of warmth and amber light like a golden summer sunset. The food is hearty, the people are welcoming, the herds are gathering, and the best stories always find a seat at the table.
