The tavern is located in the historical Lown Mercantile building, located at 701 Fifth St. in Spearfish, South Dakota, a significant historical structure built in 1893. It was constructed for William B. Lown by Swan Thompson using native “Sundance” sandstone quarried from nearby Higgins Gulch and Lookout Mountain.
Known commonly as "Lown's," the general store was a staple in the community, offering a wide array of goods, including groceries, clothing, and wagon accessories. It was famously known for its extensive candy counter.

Six Goats Tavern is a licensed property of Badlands Brands Inc. The Tavern is operated by a partnership with Badlands Hospitality Management (BHM) serving as Managing Partner. The restaurant is designed as a gathering place where quality, affordability, and atmosphere come together under one roof.
